Some of us
suffer from this simply because we have low self-esteem and are highly
sensitive. Some of us have people or circumstances that make us feel that way.

It doesn’t matter
how big we are in life. Presidents, prime ministers, chairmen and CEOs can feel
small as well. On the other hand, many people who are relatively smaller in
status may not feel small at all. They are some of the most confident people in
the world and are successful on their own terms.

We will be exploring
the many reasons why we feel small and how we can get out of the rut as we go
along but generally speaking, we feel small because of this “small
filter” in our heads. The actual situations are often not the most
important factor, even though they do play a part. Very often, many people may
experience the same situations and every one will respond differently. For
example, a teacher may scold the whole class and some students will end up
feeling small and hurt while some will respond positively and even thank the
teacher.

Our past, our
trigger points and our emotions all play a part in complicating matters so
coping is not always easy even if it appears to be simple to outsiders. It’s
especially difficult when the highly sensitive encounter bad situations or
people. It bugs us. It bothers us. We need to talk to somebody about it but the
people around us think we’re making mountains out of molehills. They think
we’re oversensitive and that it’s nothing to talk about so instead of getting
the understanding and the comfort that we need, we face cold walls that make us
feel even smaller than before.

I’ve been suffering
for several years now and over the last several months, I became increasingly
aware that there are many people out there who are suffering like me, many of
whom are experiencing it in much greater intensity. I feel there is a great need
for us to have a community where we can learn from, comfort and encourage each
other.

This site is for everyone, regardless of your backgrounds and beliefs. As a Christian, I would often refer to Bible passages and offer to pray with and for you but you don’t have to believe in Christianity to join our community.

Come as you are and
receive comfort. Then, as you receive comfort, you also comfort others. In
doing so, we spread the positivity and make this world a better place for those
of us who are feeling small.

I leave you with
this passage from the Bible that kept coming back to me repeatedly over the
last several months to tell me that I need to do something for us.

The God of All Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

[3] Praise be
to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, * the Father of compassion and
the God of all comfort, [4] who comforts us * in all our troubles, so that
we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received
from God.

FeelingSmall.org

Feelingsmall.org is for those of us who have felt small at some point in our lives.
